NASSAU, Bahamas, Aug. 2, 2016 -- Empowered women empower other women … and the inaugural International Women's Empowerment Summit (IWES) in Nassau, Bahamas will allow professional women and entrepreneurs to do just that and more. IWES will be hosted by The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism in partnership with StartUp Woman and in collaboration with UN Women at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort, from 20th to 21st October, 2016.
IWES Bahamas 2016 is the summit for aspiring and successful women professionals and entrepreneurs in various fields, from around the world and The Bahamas, to meet, to learn from, and to inspire each other. Under the theme "Empowering Women to Pursue Their Dreams", the inaugural IWES will focus on addressing the issues and interests of today's women, including doing business with confidence, economic empowerment and wealth creation, education and social empowerment, presentation and marketing, and health and wellness. The summit will be nothing short of a dynamic and unforgettable experience.
Joy Jibrilu, Director General of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism believes that every woman, regardless of her age, can take something away from the two days of discussions.
"We are talking about women's issues and, more specifically, looking at women who are accomplished and in the majority of instances have started from the bottom and through sheer grit and determination made it to the top. This Summit will provide attendees the opportunity to learn about what it took for those women to reach where they are, what was their journey and what lessons can be learned," Jibrilu said.
"As a destination, we have seen our share of major conferences, but this summit is exceptional in that it will bring together on our shores some of the biggest global female names," she said.
"This is a homegrown initiative and it speaks to the power of The Bahamas brand that we have the reach to connect to people such as the speakers and produce a summit such as we are doing."
The anticipation is heating up for registration as speakers have already confirmed their availability, excited to share their knowledge and experience with enthusiastic women in a beautiful setting such as The Bahamas.
Some of the confirmed speakers are Kelly Hoppen – Founder of Kelly Hoppen Interiors, Baroness Michelle Mone (UK) – Founder of Ultimo Bras (UK), Charlotte Tilbury – Celebrity Make-up Artist and Dr. Cindy Trimm – Empowerment Specialist. In addition to international speakers, the panels will also include Bahamian women who have made their mark in their chosen professions.
In addition to the Summit, IWES Bahamas 2016 will also launch the StartUp Woman initiative for The Bahamas, a new endeavour by the founders of the WIE Network, which shines a spotlight on woman-owned SME's in the UK, the US, and The Bahamas. Through Startup Woman Bahamas, six successful women will be invited to mentor six young Bahamian women who are looking to get their feet wet in entrepreneurship. The Summit is also being delivered in partnership with UN Women, the United Nations entity responsible for supporting gender equality and the empowerment of women.
It is estimated that 400 to 500 women will register to attend this event. Registration opened to the public on July 28, 2016.
