According to a latest report from Reuters, Samsung is likely planning an initial production run of about 5 million of its upcoming Galaxy S7 smartphones.
South Korea's Electronic Times reported the news on Monday, citing unnamed sources. It said that the company is planning to launch two variants of its new flagship smartphone – a 5.2-inch flat-screen version, and a 5.5-inch, curved-screen version that will be called the 'Galaxy S7 edge'.
Moreover, the report suggests that the tech giant plans to initially make 3.3 million of the flat-screen devices and nearly 1.6 million of the curved-screen version. The handset is expected to launch in February.
Several rumors earlier suggested Galaxy 7 to have the following specifications:
- Magnesium Alloy body
- A new Exynos 8890 chipset, with 2.3GHz as the final target and Snapdragon 820 powering some variants
- Fast UFS 2.0 storage, while the company might have found a way to make it work with SD cards
- A new 20-megapixel ISOCELL camera, and also a project called the “all lens cover”
