With the release date of the PlayStation 4 Pro by Sony being November 10, customers might be looking for early reviews of the beefier console before buying. Fortunately, several publications have already gotten their hands on the unit and their reviews are generally favorable.
As The Verge notes, the PS4 Pro marks the turning point in console gaming for the industry because it reinvents the whole concept of consoles in general. In the past, gamers could tell which console is more powerful by the simple fact that they are the next generation. With the Pro, it’s more complicated, but the results are still encouraging.
The $399 device packs double the power of its classic and slimmer cousins, which allow it to beef up graphics performance by a lot. This means that anyone who wants to play PS4 games on things like 4K TVs will get better visual rendering and even display response. This will result in a smoother gaming experience that’s superior to what the PS4 and the PS4 Slim can offer.
Barring reviews that actually put numbers in their articles, the general consensus among publications is that the Pro is a noticeably superior version of Sony’s console. However, it would seem that many of the upgrades differ based on the games played. This was because the developers tended to have different priorities when it comes to optimizing their games for the more powerful games.
Generally speaking, the majority of reviewers do agree on one thing. First, right now, there is absolutely no reason to get the original PS4. Second, for those who already own a PS4 or a PS4 Slim, upgrading might not be worth their time. For those who don’t have the console yet and are planning on getting it, the PS4 Pro is the better option.
Forbes made a brief comparison piece on all three of Sony’s console variations, listing their features and performance. Looking at the bottom line, it becomes clear which path new customers should take.
