TRACY, Calif., Jan. 31, 2016 -- In recognition of the New Year, Dr. Donald Ringer and the rest of the team at Ringer Chiropractic encourage area residents to put an end to persistent headaches and migraines through chiropractic care. The practice offers a complete array of chiropractic services, including spinal adjustments that have been credited in numerous studies with relieving pain from migraines and other types of headaches. "While it's tempting to take medication when headaches strike," said Dr. Ringer, "doing that doesn't address whatever underlying issues are causing these incidents. When patients come to us for help with their headaches we work to identify what's causing them and perform adjustments, manipulations and other techniques that are specifically designed to address them."
People often assume that headaches and migraines are just a part of life. If they feel otherwise healthy, they often cope with pain from headaches by taking acetaminophen and other medications. However, such options are merely stop-gap measures. When headaches and migraines occur regularly, something is amiss. The goal of chiropractic care is to determine whether spinal subluxations, or misaligned spinal joints are potentially to blame. Misaligned joints don't move well, and sometimes irritate nerves and nerve roots. They can often be corrected through adjustments and spinal manipulation, as long as the work is performed by capable hands.
Many folks are skeptical about the correlation between spinal alignment and headaches. However, numerous studies have borne it out, including a 2001 study by Duke University. Researchers found that spinal manipulations provided almost immediate relief for headaches and migraines. Many other studies have produced similar results.
"Some people walk into my office with active headaches or migraines and experience immediate relief," said Dr. Ringer. "Others come in with complaints of chronic headaches or migraines and, through the course of regular adjustments and chiropractic care, start seeing noticeable improvements over a short time." Many times, these patients have grown tired of relying on medications to manage their symptoms and are ready to figure out precisely what is triggering their headaches.
Because spinal misalignment irritates nerve roots and, in some cases, constricts blood vessels, it can be a direct cause of frequent headaches and migraines. Unlike medication, there are no serious potential side effects associated with chiropractic treatments like spinal adjustments and spinal manipulation. The treatments also tend to be much more affordable because they don't rely on expensive diagnostic tests like CT scans and MRIs. "While these tests can be useful, they rarely identify the true cause of the patient’s headaches,” said Dr. Ringer, “which means that patients often end up with huge medical bills and nothing to show for them.”
Dr. Ringer and his team hope that their efforts to raise awareness about chiropractic care for headaches will help more people become pain-free in 2016. Ringer Chiropractic is located in Tracy, CA, and serves greater San Joaquin County. The practice can be reached at (209) 835-2225.
