‘Rings’ recently released its official trailer featuring the return of Samara as she torments new victims. Matilda Lutz is set to play the newest lead protagonist Julia while contortionist Bonnie Morgan takes over as the new Samara.
According to Cosmopolitan, Paramount Pictures recently dropped the newest official trailer for the third installment in the supernatural and horror franchise that began with the release of Gore Verbinski’s English-language adaptation of the Japanese horror film ‘The Ring’.
The trailer showed the return of the iconic entity Samara tormenting her victims in the modern digital age. It featured Samara climbing out of e-mail attachments and even television screens on airlines in addition to her traditional climb out of regular television screens.
Samara Morgan was first introduced in the 2002 film ‘The Ring’ as a malevolent and vengeful spirit that claims innocent lives seven days following the viewing of a haunted video tape. Daveigh Chase portrayed the character in the first film. The original film received mostly positive reviews and was deemed one of the highest-grossing horror films of all time after earning $249.34 million worldwide on a production budget of $48 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
According to Forbes, the follow-up entitled ‘The Ring Two’ failed to earn the critical and commercial success of its predecessor despite being helmed by the original Japanese film’s director Hideo Nakata in place of Verbinski. It earned $161.45 million worldwide on a budget of $50 million.
F. Javier Gutierrez is directing a script prepared by Jacob Estes, Akiva Goldsman, and David Loucka for the third installment. Matilda Anna Igrid Lutz is set to play the latest main protagonist Julia in place of Naomi Watts, who starred in the first two films in the cinematic series. Lutz is an Italian model and actress who appeared in films such as ‘The Fifth Wheel’, ‘Somewhere Beautiful’, and ‘Mi chiamo Maya’.
Joining Lutz in the new cast are Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Vincent D’Onofrio, Laura Wiggins, and Zack Roerig. Professional award-winning contortionist and actress Bonnie Morgan is set to portray Samara. Morgan provided stunt and acting work for films such as ‘Minority Report’ and ‘Van Wilder’ as well as television series including ‘Providence’ and ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’.
The third film will follow a young woman as she is trapped in a dark fate as her boyfriend explores a dark subculture surrounding a haunted video tape. She sacrifices herself and is tormented in seven days.
‘Rings’ is an upcoming supernatural-horror film scheduled to premiere in U.S. theaters on October 28, 2016. It is directed by F. Javier Gutierrez and is produced under BenderSpink, Macari/Edelstein, Waddieish Claretrap, Parkes+MacDonald Image Nation, and Vertigo Entertainment. It is distributed by Paramount Pictures in the United States.
