The “Twilight” movie series has amassed a huge following, thanks to Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen’s (Robert Pattinson) chemistry. And 10 years since the movie franchise launched, Pattinson said he is still “ready” to play the same 17-year-old vampire role.
Prior to his “Twilight” gig, Pattinson was known as Cedric Diggory in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” After his short-lived Hufflepuff life, Pattinson became more popularly known as Edward Cullen — a perfect-looking vampire, as described in Stephenie Meyer’s books.
For a brief recap, Cullen was hit with Spanish influenza when he was 17. That was when he became a vampire and stopped physically aging, which explains Pattinson’s statement in a recent interview with Variety.
While promoting his upcoming movie “High Life,” Pattinson also shared his thoughts about the 10th anniversary of the “Twilight” franchise this year. "It definitely doesn't feel like 10 years ago. I feel like I kind of stopped mentally progressing around the time I started doing those movies," Pattinson said (via Refinery29). "It feels like not a day has passed."
And when asked whether he is open to the idea of a “Twilight” reunion, Pattinson jokingly said, “The amount of time I spend moisturizing, I am ready to play 17 at a moment's notice. Ready!”
On the other hand, a “Twilight” reunion would, technically, be impossible. For one, the book series where it is based concluded with “Breaking Dawn.” It is also hard to ignore the fact that it would be quite awkward for Pattinson and Stewart to play onscreen lovers again.
Stewart and Pattinson became close while filming the movie series. Their friendship later resulted in a two-year relationship. But it ended on a bad note after it was confirmed that Stewart and “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders had an affair. Stewart was still dating Pattinson while Sanders was married at the time.
Needless to say, many things have happened with Pattinson and Stewart 10 years since the first “Twilight” film came out, especially in terms of their careers. Stewart has taken on more gritty movie roles and has also ventured into directing and writing films. Pattinson, on the other hand, has also been successful in playing roles that are so different from what Edward Cullen is like.
