SK Geocentric Co. had signed an agreement with the Ministry of Environment, Korea Expressway Corp., and bottled water brand Jeju Samdasoo to promote the separate disposal and recycling of plastic garbage generated at expressway rest areas.
At the end of this month, a new initiative will begin that will systematically oversee the collection of waste plastics at 18 expressway rest areas.
Waste PET bottles will be separated and sorted using automated collectors, depending on the level of recycling. Bottles that can be recycled will be separated and used again as a renewable raw material.
Participants in the plastic recycling program will get to draw for prizes made from recycled plastic waste.
