Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe just completed “Outlander” season 4 last month, and they are now preparing to film the next installment since it was already confirmed that there would be at least two more seasons. And while the stars have their steady work as Jamie and Claire Fraser in the time-traveling period drama, they still have more projects lined up for them as they also aspire to expand their careers.
The Scottish Sun reported that Sam Heughan could be the next “Batman” as Ben Affleck says goodbye to his DC role. Jennifer Garner’s ex’s departure as the caped superhero was confirmed late month after the actor retweeted a report stating that a new Bruce Wayne is coming in the summer of 2021.
In any case, many people think that Sam Heughan is perfect as the new “Batman.” Based on a poll that was set up by JustJared on Feb. 3, Caitriona Balfe’s “Outlander” co-star is the leading choice after garnering around 36,000 votes.
On Feb. 3, JustJared tweeted, "Who do you think should play Batman after Ben Affleck's departure? Vote at the link! "@SamHeughan is currently in first place with @JensenAckles close behind!"
The poll featured many popular actors in the choices list, and this includes Jenson Ackles, Liam Hemsworth, Jamie Dornan, Bradley Cooper, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner. Ackles secured second place with 32,000 votes.
When the poll ended, Sam Heughan retweeted the poll results and simply added the “Batman” emoji on his post. The actor’s tweet made fans so excited, and they agreed that he is the best guy to portray Bruce Wayne.

On the other hand, while Sam Heughan may be pursuing a superhero role next, Caitriona Balfe’s next project may be low-key. Via an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she said that she would like to direct “Outlander” and believes that now is the right time to do it after years of observing and learning from the set.
“I definitely would love to direct down the line, and I think he (Sam Heughan) would too,” she told the magazine. “I would love to be on set when Sam Heughan’s bossing me around!”
It was revealed that Caitriona Balfe has ambitions of becoming a director for a long time. However, it was only now that she gathered the confidence to do it after acquiring the skills and knowledge needed to do the work right.
Meanwhile, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe will be back as Claire and Jamie Fraser in “Outlander” season 5. The release date is not yet available, but there is the possibility of late 2019 debut.
