Samsung Electronics Co. is exploring robotics as a potential growth driver, filing various patents in the U.S. The patents range from robots that monitor pet behavior and detect emotions to a walking assist robot for the mobility-impaired. Other patent applications include a two-fingered robot for various uses, a disinfecting robot, and technologies for automatic charging.
One of Samsung Electronics' robots, which sports a round shape and moves on two wheels, can follow and monitor pets in real time. By analyzing behavioral patterns and recognizing the sounds of pets, the robot can interact with pet owners based on the gathered data.
In addition to pet-related technology, Samsung Electronics has also filed a patent for a walking assist robot that is attached to the human body. This model, part of Samsung Electronics' prospective healthcare robotic brand, BotFit, provides walking assistance to individuals with limited mobility or older people. Notably, the robot ensures seamless and safe operation, even during communication loss caused by a device error.
Samsung Electronics robotic innovations extend further. The company has developed a two-fingered robot capable of detecting and grasping objects, suitable for industrial, medical, and home use. Furthermore, they have created a spray-on robot that can be utilized to disinfect public places affected by contagious diseases. By utilizing sensors, this robot identifies the areas that require disinfection.
The comprehensive range of patents also includes technologies for robots to discern various heights along their paths and a sensor for automatic charging. Samsung Electronics is actively expanding its presence in the robotic business, establishing a dedicated team of robot engineers in 2021.
In another development, Samsung Electronics Co. has announced its commitment to fostering shared growth with smaller domestic companies. It plans to transfer 123 patent technologies, spanning sectors such as semiconductors, displays, and mobile gadgets, to 86 smaller firms, without requiring royalties.
These initiatives underline Samsung Electronics' continuous dedication to advancing robotics and collaborating with other industry players to drive innovation and growth.
