Saxony-Anhalt police are examining an online group’s claim that it set fire to three Bundeswehr trucks near Magdeburg, while investigators treat the Sept. 24 blaze as suspected arson.

The fire damaged the military vehicles in Barleben early Sept. 24. Police said no one was injured.

An anonymous post published on Indymedia on Oct. 1 was signed by a group calling itself Rote Arbeiter:innen Aktionsgruppe Ulrike Meinhof. The group claimed it set the trucks alight and framed the action as opposition to conscription, militarism and war.

The Saxony-Anhalt State Criminal Police Office (LKA) told dpa it knew of the post and declined further comment while the investigation continued.

The group’s name invokes Ulrike Meinhof, a founding member of the Red Army Faction (RAF).

Authorities have not confirmed the post’s authenticity, and the investigation is ongoing.
