Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have broken up, but when the former Disney star celebrated her birthday on July 22, many were curious if her ex-boyfriend had plans to mark the day with her. Did he even greet her on that day?
According to Hollywood Life, since The Weeknd recently got back together with Bella Hadid, he did not prepare anything special for Selena Gomez. It was added that the Canadian singer, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, had no plans whatsoever for his ex, not even a text message to greet her because they have their own lives now.
“Abel will not be sending Selena flowers this weekend for her birthday, nor will he send her a happy birthday text or anything like that,” the source exclusively told Hollywood Life.
The publication stated that The Weeknd does not want to put his relationship with Bella Hadid at risk, plus, sending a text to Selena Gomez could be easily seen as disrespectful to his current girlfriend, so he will not reconnect with the “Wizards of Waverly Place” star.
In any case, fans were just hoping that The Weeknd might reconnect with Selena Gomez since it was her special day. This was because, didn’t they said that they are best friends even if they broke up?
"I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life. We ended it as best friends, and it was genuinely about encouraging and caring for each other, and that was pretty remarkable for me," E! News quoted Selena as saying in November 2017.
Selena Gomez and The Weeknd dated for less than a year and the couple made their relationship public when they appeared together at the 2017 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. They broke up in October 2017 and based on reports, the reason for their split was their busy schedules and distance.
