Selena Gomez is well-loved by her fans who called themselves the “Selenators.” They adore her so much that they are always ready to fight for her if they see that she is being maltreated or attacked.
In fact, recently, they slammed the singer Becky G. as they believed that she shaded their idol when she took Seventeen’s Latino legends lyric challenge on July 24. In the video, she sang snippets of popular songs by Daddy Yankee, Shakira, Bad Bunny and more. She also tried the “Taki Taki” song that featured Selena and this caused issues with the “Wizards of Waverly Place” stars’ fans.
The problematic song
Becky G. was asked to sing DJ Snake’s “Taki Taki” where Selena Gomez was one of the featured singers. “Oh, I know this one. I’ll never forget this one because when I heard it, I was a little confused cause it says, ‘Come in the party, have a fiesta. Blow out the candles and have a siesta,’” she said in the clip.
She added, “But I don’t want to have a siesta in the middle of the fiesta like I want to party. I wouldn’t take a nap, you know what I’m saying?” It was this last comment that made the Selenators think that Becky G. was dissing Selena, so she was bashed on social media.
Becky G. defended herself
In response, the singer defended herself by saying that she did not diss anyone. She asked people why they are doing this when she doesn’t even understand where their hate for her is coming from as she did not do anything that would hurt Selena and they obviously got the facts wrong. Becky G. also said that she also loves their idol and told them, “who doesn’t?”
Selena reacts
As the issue starts to escalate, Selena Gomez reacted to the accusations that Becky G. dragged her down. Hollywood Life reported that the singer/actress was not affected or upset at Becky G. Rather, she said that Becky G’s comments were just blown way out of proportion and was linked to her when there is no intention like that in the first place.
Selena Gomez and Becky G. worked together for the “Hotel Transylvania” movie and although not that close, they are friends. She clarified that there is beef between them and even herself doesn’t get what all the fuss about the lyrics was about.
