Seungri and the allegations levied against him is still under investigation. Thus, some have been asking how this development will affect his mandatory military enlistment that should take place this year.
While Seungri isn’t obligated to serve, he’s still liable for military duty before he turns 28 as dictated by South Korean law. With the K-Pop icon turning 29 this December, it’s imperative that he tidies everything up before that month hits.
Otherwise, the investigation will turn into a joint endeavor between the military and the prosecution in charge of the case. The Military Manpower Administration previously said that Seungri will not be enlisting this June 25, clarifying “that is the date by which his enlistment has been delayed.” Following that time, the embattled singer is eligible to ask for another three-month extension as his camp sorts out the massive case that took the country by storm, BusinessMirror reported.
Among the allegations faced by Seungri are prostitution charges, embezzlement, and violation of the Food Sanitation Act. Other accusations are drug distribution, filming women doing sexual acts without their consent, and police corruption – the last of which has spawned a brand new controversy involving several agencies within South Korea, Variety reported.
Aside from Seungri, other pop icons such as Jung Joon-young, Choi Jong-hoon, Lee Jong-hyun, and Yong Jun-hyung were also caught by the scandal. All men were removed from their respective groups and other projects after news broke out.
With the #MeTooMovement gaining global traction, the Seungri and Burning Sun club scandal sparked outrage in South Korea, especially with allegations of police corruption amidst investigations. Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Won Kyung Hwan acknowledged this public criticism and assured the masses that they’re doing everything they can to identify other suspects that may have been overlooked.
