With a company that has a reputation like EA, gamers would be forgiven for fully expecting that it would be cranking out remasters of the massively successful “Mass Effect” franchise like practically every other publisher is doing with their games now. However, it seems this is just not going to happen, at least until the developers are done with the upcoming “Mass Effect Andromeda.” The company is also planning on announcing a new intellectual property soon.
EA has been known to prioritize profit over everything else throughout its history as a video game publisher, so it was perfectly safe to assume that an explosive IP like the “Mass Effect” series would be like low-hanging fruit. However, GameSpot reports that this is just not going to be the case, at least according to EA executive Peter Moore
Speaking to IGN, Moore indicated that EA is currently looking towards the future right now, instead of considering past content, which is something that they could easily do. This statement obviously pertains to the much-anticipated 4th installment to the company’s space-faring franchise, “Mass Effect Andromeda.”
"Can we make an easy buck on remastering Mass Effect? Yes. Have a thousand people asked me that? Yes, they have," he said during the interview. "We just feel like we want to go forward. There's a little thing called Mass Effect: Andromeda that we're totally focused on at BioWare and it's gonna be magnificent."
This is part surprising, part disappointing news for “Mass Effect” fans who might be looking forward to diving back into the trilogy to take on massive god-machines once more. Still, it’s good to hear that the company is on track to delivering the next installment that is set to take place in a whole new galaxy.
Speaking of which, PCGamesN reports that EA has a new IP that it will be announcing in the near future. As EA Studios top dog Patrick Soderlund put it, this is not exactly news, though he declined to elaborate what it’s about. All everyone knows right now is that it’s being made by BioWare and that it’s not “Mass Effect Andromeda.”
