There is no doubt that “Shrek 5” is coming as this has been confirmed already. The confirmation came as soon as Comcast-NBCUniversal purchased Dreamworks Studio that produced a number of hit animations. Comcast wants to get the wheel moving at once thus it immediately ordered for Dreamwork’s movies to be produced.
With that said, “Shrek 5” is the first project on the list. While many people assumed that the fifth “Shrek” movie is a sequel to the previous four flicks under Dreamworks, Comcast-NBC Universal actually ordered for a reboot. This means that it will be a totally new movie but all the beloved characters will be there.
In fact, to achieve this, Comcast hired a new writer for “Shrek 5.” The company wants to create a new story for the said animated film so it needs fresh ideas. As per Collider, Comcast enlisted the services of Michael McCullers who also wrote the story of “Austin Powers.” He was tasked to bring in unique and modern plotlines to create a refreshing screenplay for the new generation of audience.
“He came up with a really great idea that they’re exploring,” Mike Mitchell, director of “Shrek 2” commented on the addition of McCullers to the fifth movie installment. “With this detail, the viewers will see a different story that may be filled with twists and other explosive plots.”
As promised by Comcast-NBC Universal, the viewers will see a great story that the younger generation will appreciate. Then, it is likely that everyone will see a modern family in “Shrek 5” where Shrek and Fiona’s family could be using some hi-tech gadgets?
“Shrek 5” creator Chris Meledandri said via Variety that the movie will be nostalgic as well. “When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,” he said.
Meanwhile, it may take a while before “Shrek 5” release date is confirmed. It may come soon though since it is already in the works so stay tuned for updates.
