Messages or posts sent via Snapchat can now be deleted by the sender. This will help in a variety of ways, from correcting mistakes in grammar or spelling to removing mistakenly sent messages. It will also hopefully save users from committing huge errors due to being drunk. Sending illicit photos in the middle of the night via a group chat can be rather embarrassing after all.
Called “Clear Chats,” the new feature could not be simpler in function. It basically allows users to delete messages sent either through a group chat or direct message, Engadget reports. Even if the message has been viewed or if it was already saved, it can still be deleted by the sender.
Using the feature is easy as well. All the sender has to do is press their fingers on the message until the option to delete it comes out. Once done, the message can no longer be retrieved and the other users will be alerted that it was deleted.
While the idea is useful and provides users of the platform more control over their messages, it’s not perfect. Just as with the 24-hour grace period of posts being put up before disappearing, this feature is vulnerable to screenshots. If the participants of the group chat or the person who received the message saves a screenshot, there’s nothing the sender can do about it.
Other than the new feature, Snap Inc. has exciting news in the vein of its AR wearables, Spectacles. The second generation of these sunglasses that are equipped with a camera and sensors is now available, The Verge reports.
The newer models are now slimmer and are water resistant. Priced at $149.99, these wearables are not exactly necessary to enjoy the Snapchat experience, but they do help. Plus, they make wearers look stylish in a way that other AR glasses don’t.
