Some Gulf governments may resist U.S. use of their bases for an Iran operation, three senior officials said; Washington urged allies to prepare for strikes that could come Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The officials characterized the contemplated operation as limited in duration but intense. They said President Donald Trump wants to weaken Iran’s nuclear program further or reach an agreement with Tehran. Their account does not confirm that Trump ordered strikes or that an operation will take place.

The date they cited is one day after the U.S. midterm elections, scheduled for Nov. 3. The United States last struck Iran on Sept. 1, and a maritime blockade of Iranian ports remains in place.

The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Washington had asked Gulf Arab governments to prepare for possible military action after the election, as described in EconoTimes’ earlier report on the post-election warning.
