There is a new round of vehicle recalls in South Korea, and it involves six unit models. It was reported that BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and two more automakers have voluntarily issued a recall which will affect almost 49,000 vehicle units.
As per Yonhap News Agency, the latest car recall in S. Korea was also confirmed by the country’s transport ministry, which is the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. The agency cited faulty vehicle parts as the main reason for the recalls.
Aside from the mentioned car brands, it was reported that the local automaker Hyundai Motor Co. and Suzuki MAN Truck & Bus Korea Ltd. are also included in the list with vehicle models that must be fixed for defects. The MLIT announced the new recall via a statement.
It was explained that BMW's X6 xDrive30d SUV has a defective fuel pump system that may lead to possible power outages where the unit may suddenly stop running. For Hyundai Motor's Mighty truck, it has several issues, including a faulty airbag system which is the same problem with the Mercedes-Benz's E 220 D 4MATIC car.
The companies have started to fix the defects since Friday. Some of the units had parts repaired, while others needed parts replacements. All the services, including replacements, are for free as per the transport ministry.
Meanwhile, this is the second recall for this month alone. Two weeks ago, officials announced a recall on six car labels that were locally manufactured locally and others that were exported. The Korea Herald reported that 35 models from the said automakers were affected, and all in all, the total recalled units was 28,946.
“Damages were found on the connecting parts of propeller shafts,” the transport ministry said in a press release. “This can trigger failure of power transmission to the rear wheels and halt the vehicle while driving.”
Hyundai Motor has the biggest number to be recalled as 10,407 Grand Starex vans were affected, and this was followed by BMW Korea that must fix 5,656 vehicles from 15 of its models that were found to have issues with brake vacuum pumps that could malfunction.
Mercedes-Benz Korea recalled 4,781 vehicles for software errors in the engine control, while Jaguar Land Rover Korea only has 721 vehicles to fix for faulty battery bolts. Finally, Toyota Motor Korea recalled 488 units, and Honda must repair 6,692 units for failure to meet Korea’s safety standards.
