ANDOVER, Mass., Jan. 31, 2017 -- MKS Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ:MKSI) announces that its Spectra-Physics® business unit introduces Explorer® One™ HP, a new UV laser with double the power of its highly successful Explorer One line of ultra-compact actively Q-switched lasers. The Explorer® One™ HP delivers >4 W UV power and repetition rates up to 500 kHz. Addressing the semiconductor, flat panel display, and mobile device manufacturing markets, the new laser results in higher throughput for high quality drilling and structuring of thin films and foils, and high contrast, high speed marking of plastics, metals, glass, and sapphire. Its small, air-cooled design enables customers to realize compact tabletop micromachining and UV marking solutions.

“The new Explorer One HP delivers an unprecedented combination of ultra-compact air-cooled design, sophisticated control features, high reliability, and excellent performance,” says Wolfgang Koehler, product manager at Spectra-Physics. “The new laser greatly expands the capability of the popular and proven Explorer One family for demanding manufacturing applications.”
Explorer One HP outputs >4 W UV 355 nm at 100 kHz repetition rate and pulse energies of up to 80 µJ. The new laser incorporates advanced control features including E-Pulse™ pulse energy control and E-Track™ dynamic energy and power control. Unique single pulse energy measurements at speeds up to 500 kHz with fast data processing enable these highly value-added capabilities for easy-to-use, precise control. Explorer One HP has identical electrical and software interfaces to the Explorer One family to ensure straightforward integration and switching between models for specific application requirements.
Explorer One HP is an “It’s in the Box™” laser, integrating power supply and laser head into a single lightweight package and patent-pending design. The laser is based on the proven Explorer platform with demonstrated high reliability from thousands of units deployed in 24/7 applications.
Spectra-Physics’ Explorer One HP laser will be featured at SPIE Photonics West, Moscone Center, San Francisco, California, January 31 to February 2, 2017. Please visit MKS at booth #1400 for a demonstration. For more information, please see www.spectra-physics.com/explorer-one-hp.
