DALLAS, Jan. 31, 2016 -- Spinalworks Dallas, a chiropractic clinic that is located in Dallas, TX, is promoting its non-surgical spinal decompression services. Doctors Matthew Carter and Ben Wolfington recommend spinal decompression for a variety of conditions, including herniated and bulging discs, degenerative disc disease, neck pain, lower back pain, sciatica and more. "Although it's been available for years, many people are completely in the dark about non-surgical spinal decompression and the amazing benefits that it brings to the table," said Dr. Wolfington. "We use the Kennedy decompression table, which is among the most advanced around, so patients receive the very best care when undergoing this procedure at our practice," he added.
The premise behind spinal decompression is simple. Patients lay either face-up or face-down on a computer-controlled decompression table. They are secured to the table with a strap around their waist, and a system of pulls connects to the computer and is guided by the doctor. The precise movements vary depending on the section of the spine that is being treated and on the condition or conditions that are being treated. "This is a very personalized procedure," said Dr. Carter. "Before undergoing it, a patient sits for a consultation and an examination to ensure that they derive the best benefits from the treatment," he added.
During spinal decompression, the spine is stretched to increase space between the discs that are sandwiched between individual vertebrae. This action creates a negative pressure, or vacuum, in the spine that causes herniated or bulging discs to retract into their proper positions. At the same time, this vacuum allows fluids that contain oxygen, nutrients and minerals to flood into the discs, which helps them heal more quickly.
Additionally, spinal decompression alleviates tension and stress from the sciatic nerve and nerve roots, which helps to reduce inflammation and pain. Many times, patients experience pain relief immediately--even while they are still on the table. "The procedure is completely non-invasive and very comfortable," said Dr. Wolfington. "Some patients even describe it as pleasant. In fact, some even take short naps during the procedure," he added.
The typical non-surgical decompression session lasts anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. The frequency with which a patient needs to come in for treatment depends on the conditions that are being treated and on their overall progress. Most patients also receive other types of chiropractic care and treatments during this time. Drs. Wolfington, Carter and their team develop customized treatment plans for patients that may include chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, TENS therapy and other physiotherapies. The practice also offers nutritional counseling and an array of other services to help patients overcome various conditions and to achieve long-term, sustainable health and wellness.
