Buckley joined SpotX in 2013 to build and launch the company’s platform business, providing publishers with a system to manage their programmatic video business. During his four years with SpotX, Buckley has been instrumental in growing the business through a variety of initiatives, including the launch of the company’s SSP, publisher ad server, and private marketplace services for buyers.
The promotion is a first at SpotX, positioning Buckley among the co-founders of SpotX, CEO Mike Shehan and CFO/COO Steve Swoboda, and alongside CTO Allen Dove, as the only c-suite executives at the company to date.
“Sean has quickly grown into an astute leader of our industry, and his knowledge of the video monetization ecosystem is indispensable to SpotX,” said Mike Shehan, Co-Founder & CEO, SpotX. “His ability to navigate the complex challenges faced by both traditional publishers shifting to digital, and the ever-growing group of companies monetizing video, made him the best candidate for this new position.”
In his new role Buckley will continue to report to Shehan.
The consolidation of the Demand Facilitation and Platform business units under a single leader, a responsibility Buckley assumed in July of 2016, has better positioned SpotX to help its customer base monetize their video inventory across screens, formats, and demand channels.
“It’s exciting to be part of such a bright, dynamic, and forward thinking team here at SpotX,” added Buckley. “I look forward to working closely with our global teams to provide video publishers with advanced inventory management solutions, and help connect our platform customers with buyers via valuable, data-driven demand facilitation services.”
SpotX has over 375 employees and offices in 9 countries.
Before joining SpotX, Buckley served as Group Director, Business Development & Strategic Partnerships at IDG, where he led the company’s programmatic strategy and Publisher Development group. He earned a bachelor’s degree with concentrations in Marketing and Finance from Northeastern University in Boston, where he also co-founded the school’s highly successful Venture Accelerator, IDEA.
