“Star Wars” Episode 9 is set to conclude the Skywalker saga and director and co-writer JJ Abrams has brought out the big guns for this epic conclusion. The trailer for the upcoming film has plenty of hints what’s going to happen next but it’s biggest reveal came at the end of the clip via a cackling evil voice.
In “Star Wars” Episode 9, Emperor Palpatine will be the main antagonist of the story with actor Ian Mcdiarmid returning to reprise his role as the iconic villain. It’s for this reason that there are speculations being thrown around out there that Luke (Mark Hamill) and Vader may be returning as well, Screen Rant reported.
While this is merely an assumption at the moment, there’s apparently evidence supporting this claim coming in the form of a previous draft written by George Lucas himself. If this proves to be true, then “Star Wars” Episode 9 will undoubtedly blow the minds of its fan base as a battle between Palpatine, Luke, and Vader will be legendary at the very least. It will also fulfill Anakin’s destiny of bringing balance into the force.
The trailer of the film already hinted at this regard when Luke said that those who have passed haven’t really departed. Add the fact that the franchise’s canon has established that Palpatine has learned how to survive death and this theory stands taller still. Of course, this shouldn’t be taken as confirmation since nothing has been revealed about the plot of “Star Wars” Episode 9.
For all we know, Abrams and co-writer Chris Terrio may have taken a completely different route and have Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo (Adam Driver) defeat the Emperor. However, this path is indeed deceptively obvious. If Luke and Anakin couldn’t do it, then it would be criminal if Rey would be the one to finish off Palpatine given that she just recently discovered her power. Whatever the case, fans will find out soon enough as the release date of “Star Wars” Episode 9 is drawing closer having been slated to hit theatres on Dec. 19, RadioTimes reported.
