Starbucks Japan offers customers a special Halloween treat with the “Mela Me-la Frappuccino,” designed to resemble a burning flame. When the chain’s resident connoisseur, K. Masami, tried it last week, she remarked that it was one of the most visually stunning Frappuccinos she had ever encountered. Just as she thought her Halloween taste-testing duties were complete, Starbucks surprised her with another seasonal offering—the “Pachi-Pachi Trick” customization.

Released on October 18, the “Pachi-Pachi Trick,” or “Crackling Trick,” builds on the fiery theme of the Halloween Frappuccino with its popping, crackling texture. While it pairs perfectly with the limited-time Frappuccino, this fun addition can be used with any drink on the menu. Sold in separate sachets, the customization is priced at 108 yen (US$0.72) for takeout or 110 yen for dine-in.

Masami Elevates Her Starbucks Experience with Pachi-Pachi Trick Topping on Frappuccino and Waffle

Excited to experiment, Masami opted to pair the popping candy with a different drink—the rare My Fruit³ Frappuccino, available at only 15 stores throughout Japan. The Pachi-Pachi Trick comes in three colors—red, blue, and orange—but the color is a surprise until the sachet is opened. Hoping for variety, Masami purchased two sachets, and to her delight, she received both red and blue.

After sprinkling the toppings over her Frappuccino, Masami’s drink transformed, creating a fun, party-like atmosphere. The popping candy, creamy texture, and berry flavors made for an explosive experience on her palate, elevating her mood and appetite. Inspired by the fun, she decided to try the topping on something different.

She selected the Waffle with Whipped Cream (290 yen), which immediately looked more festive with the colorful toppings. However, Masami found that the thick waffle absorbed much of the popping effect, resulting in a less crackly experience than with the Frappuccino. Nonetheless, she enjoyed the nostalgic joy of popping candy, likening it to being a child in a candy shop.

Whether sprinkled on a drink or a snack, the Pachi-Pachi Trick adds a playful and festive touch, perfect for lifting spirits during autumn. However, it will only be available while the Halloween Frappuccino remains on the menu until October 31.
