Holders of the Starknet token (STRK) are weighing whether to study an independent Layer 1 designed for post-quantum security, a question that could shape the network’s long-term reliance on Ethereum.

The nonbinding poll opened Oct. 15 and runs for seven days. Its result would gauge support for research, not authorize a network transition or set a migration timetable. EconoTimes previously covered the poll’s opening and proposed scope.

Starknet’s governance post says the network’s bridge and data-availability components rely on Ethereum, tying those parts of the system to Ethereum’s development timeline. The post presents an independent Layer 1 as a way to remove that dependence, while the current poll asks only whether to investigate the option.

The governance post outlines three outcomes: a vote for study would start further research and later votes; a vote against it would keep quantum-security efforts in Starknet’s Layer 2; and a neutral result would leave the discussion open while questions are addressed.

The governance post says STRK would remain the network’s token under either path and Ethereum-to-Starknet bridges would stay open. The post says results are due to be shown when the seven-day poll closes.
