“Steven Universe” season 6 has yet to be confirmed, and since it is nearly five months since the fifth installment has ended with the “Change Your Mind” finale, there are speculations that perhaps, that was the last. Although the way the story went in that final episode gave the feeling that it is the ending point, this is not the case.
Rebecca Sugar or Cartoon Network never said that “Steven Universe” season 6 is not coming and while there is no announcement yet, this does not mean that the series has ended. The announcement of the movie also raised the suspicions that the sixth season has been canceled and assumed that the film was made to close the whole series.
Rebecca Sugar talks about season 6
“Steven Universe” season 6 is definitely coming, and Rebecca Sugar talked about in via Apple podcast in February. She appeared on the broadcast with former co-executive producer Ian Jones-Quartey, and they shared their plans for new episodes.
As proof that “Steven Universe” season 6 is happening, the two executives shared that the viewers will see a different Steven in the upcoming episodes. He will show a different version of himself as he realized many things when he finally discovered that he is a Pink Diamond in “Change Your Mind.”
“The thing about Steven Universe is that it’s a coming of age story and this is something that he had to figure out in order to start making decisions for himself,” Jones-Quartey said. This statement suggests that Steven’s growth will be the highlight in “Steven Universe” season 6 as he turns into a more mature person.
Express also reported that Cartoon Network also confirmed via social media that there is more to come after the fifth season. The publication wrote that the new season might arrive this year as well.
“Steven Universe: The Movie” details
As mentioned earlier, the movie version of “Steven Universe” was thought to be the reasons why “Steven Universe” season 6 is not coming anymore, but this is not true. The film that is set to be released this fall is just one of the projects produced by Rebecca Sugar to showcase a creative twist to the well-loved animation. This is a unique presentation as the film is a musical that will feature great artists like Chance the Rapper, Estelle Darlings, Patti LuPone, and Aimee Mann.
“The epic music-filled adventure for Steven and his friends will overflow with more new songs and music than ever before,” Warner Media stated via press release. “In his first television movie scheduled for this fall, Steven thinks his time defending the Earth is over, but when a new threat comes to Beach City, Steven faces his biggest challenge yet.”
