‘Stranger Things’ season 2 is set to feature the return of Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven. In a new photograph, Brown is seen debuting curly hair instead of her signature shaved head hinting at Eleven’s new character arc in the upcoming season.
The young cast of Netflix’s breakout science-fiction and horror web television series appeared on the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s latest annual Fall TV Preview issue in a photograph suggesting their new looks for the much-anticipated season 2.
The cover featured the main cast of characters including Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, and Noah Schnapp as Will Byers. Looking significantly different from season 1 was Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven. Instead of her signature shaved head, Brown’s Eleven has a full head of curly brown hair.
Co-creator and writer Ross Duffer also hinted, "It's a balance of the comfort you're familiar with, but then taking it in new directions… That's what we're trying to strike with season 2."
According to Teen Vogue, the series’ hairstylist Sarah Hindsgaul hinted at a change in hairstyles for the core characters during a previous interview saying that they will be requiring a number of wigs in season 2. Perhaps Eleven will also be channeling the ‘80s vibe in the upcoming season.
Season 2 will be set in the year 1984 and will pick up a year following the events of its predecessor. It will also take viewers beyond the small town of Hawkins, Indiana.
Core characters are set to return in addition to new characters to be played by Brett Gelman, Paul Reiser, Linnea Berthelsen, Sadie Sink, and Dacre Montgomery. Brown is expected to reprise her role as the mysterious telepathic girl Eleven, who was last seen fighting off the terrifying Demogorgon released from the Upside Down only to vanish in mid-air.
Season 1’s finale, titled "Chapter Eight: The Upside Down," hinted at Eleven’s return when David Harbour’s Jim Hopper was seen leaving Eggos in a random area in the forest. Eggos were Eleven’s favorite snacks.
The series garnered critical acclaim since its release on July 2016 including a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama, two nominations for Critics’ Choice Television Awards, three nominations for People’s Choice Awards, two Satelitte Awards nominations, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award win for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
‘Stranger Things’ season 2 is scheduled to be released on Netflix on October 31, 2017 and will be composed of nine episodes. It was renewed last August 2016.
