Strategy's Bitcoin Buying Reboots — But at a Fraction of Its Late-August Splurge

Strategy (previously Micro Strategy) bought 950 BTC for around $75.7 million between September 14 and September 20, so resuming its Bitcoin acquisition after two weeks of inactivity. The transaction, a significant reset, is significantly less than the 4,603 BTC (almost $370 million) it purchased late in August; around 79% fewer coins and 80% less spending. The company currently holds 846,000 BTC at an average cost of about $75,416 per coin; the most recent batch acquired at an average price of $79,670 per BTC. So, even if headlines promote buying being "up 75% from last week," that comparison is against a week without any purchases—not a real acceleration.

The slow speed shows changing capital allocation priorities. Strategy purchased around $174 million of its STRC preferred shares in the same week, more than twice what it paid on Bitcoin. This indicates that although the company is still devoted to its Bitcoin treasury approach, money is not only going into BTC. The lesser purchase could point to more discriminating buying following Bitcoin's run, a move toward desired-stock buybacks, liquidity preservation, control of financing risk, and sensitivity to the premiums or discounts on MSTR's share and preferred-security.

Though not strongly optimistic, the market interpretation is positive. The comeback confirms Michael Saylor's long-term Bitcoin theory, but the little scale probably won't cause a supply shock, and preferred-stock buybacks using more capital indicate rival priorities. The fundamental conclusion is that this is a measured return to accumulation rather than a comeback to strong purchasing. The following important sign will be whether Strategy continues another significant purchase or once more turns cash toward STRC repurchases and liquidity management.
