Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd unveiled plans to build a UK power cable factory in the Scottish Highlands to cater to the growing demand for cables for offshore wind farms and further grid connections.
Osamu Inoue, president and COO of Sumitomo Electric, said they have the technologies necessary for the development of a green society and will work with the Scottish and UK governments and other stakeholders on future offshore wind power and interconnector projects in the region.
In 2019, Sumitomo Electric delivered its high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cross-linked polyethylene-insulated (XLPE) submarine cable system for the UK-Belgium interconnector known as the NEMO Link.
Since then, Sumitomo Electric has executed multiple orders globally. Furthermore, it is experienced in the delivery of power cables for offshore wind projects around the world.
