Now that viewers are made aware of how the system for the Underworld where Kirito is currently trapped in has been taken over by a rogue program, things are beginning to unravel in the story. With the revelation of the Administrator, it seems like the show is foreshadowing some kind of AI revolution. Will “Sword Art Online: Alicization” Episode 13 involve some kind of “Terminator” plotline?
It would seem like a theme that is becoming all too common in sci-fi properties, but it was not really a surprise to find a malicious programmer is responsible for the mess that the Underworld is in. The fact that the Taboo Index and the game’s morality system stems from evil now makes sense of the ridiculous exceptions in the virtual world. “Sword Art Online: Alicization” Episode 13 is expected to reveal more about that.
The fact that the Administrator is messing with the programs in the simulation seems to follow the same plotline of a lot of other sci-fi properties that feature AI. If a program can actually take over the virtual Underworld and declare itself its sole custodian, it means that it has the capacity to go against the will of the simulation’s creator. More context with regards to this idea could be found in “Sword Art Online: Alicization” Episode 13.
Of course, this is just speculation, for now. However, a preview trailer for what is to come in “Sword Art Online: Alicization” Episode 13 was already shared on social media. The clip even features a scene that depicts the battle between the two supreme programs in the simulation.
