Türkiye and Uzbekistan set a $5 billion initial trade target and agreed to establish the High-Level Business Support Council in Ankara, aiming to expand bilateral commerce toward a $10 billion medium-term goal.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the council agreement after talks on Oct. 29, Türkiye’s Trade Ministry said. The ministry described $5 billion as the first target, with $10 billion as a medium-term benchmark.

Bilateral trade totaled $3.092 billion in 2025, according to Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry. The council is intended to help business initiatives advance and create closer working links between officials and companies in both countries, the Trade Ministry said.

Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and the head of Uzbekistan’s presidential administration will co-chair the council. It is expected to meet regularly.

A separate signed protocol would add products to the countries’ preferential-trade lists. Türkiye’s Trade Ministry said the change aims to broaden exporters’ access to each other’s markets.

The council and trade protocol were among five documents signed after the Ankara talks. The package also included social security measures and an arrangement for advance exchange of customs information, as covered in EconoTimes’ report on the five agreements.

Anadolu Agency reported that the leaders’ discussions also covered mining, transport and the defense industry. Uzbekistan’s presidency said officials are preparing for the next Joint Intergovernmental Commission meeting.
