Taco Bell is testing a Naked Chalupa with a crispy shell made of pea instead of the usual fried chicken.
Dubbed "the Naked Chalupa with a Crispy Plant-Based Shell," this vegan option was created using Taco Bell's pea protein-based proprietary blend.
However, the rest of the product is standard with lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and avocado ranch sauce.
Liz Matthews, Taco Bell's global chief food innovation officer, said the new test item confirms that they are a "food disruptor," addressing consumers' desire for creativity and craving in food.
The test item is only available at 2222 Barranca Pkwy in Irvine, California, until June 27, 2021, or while supplies last.
It costs $3.49 plus tax.
Taco Bell said it is excited about teaming up with Beyond Meat to create a new innovative plant-based protein.
