A shooting near Florida A&M University's stadium injured at least 12 people, including six juveniles, in Tallahassee on Saturday, Oct. 24, police said.
Officers responded shortly before 8 p.m. ET near Perry and Manatee streets, the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) said. Eleven people had gunshot wounds; the injured group included six adults and six juveniles.
In a statement describing the situation as of 11:30 p.m. ET, TPD said at least three victims had serious injuries and nine were stable. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said in the statement that children among the injured was “especially heartbreaking.” WCTV later reported a different breakdown from Revell's news conference: three victims had serious injuries, one was in critical condition and eight were stable.
TPD said preliminary findings suggest a confrontation came before the gunfire. The department's Violent Crimes Unit is investigating and working to establish how events unfolded and identify those involved.
Florida A&M University's schedule lists its Homecoming game at Bragg Memorial Stadium beginning at 3 p.m. ET Saturday. TPD did not say the game was connected to the shooting.
