Telegram released the latest update for its messaging app that adds more customization options for certain features. Users can now set “any sound” as their notification sound, while new choices for mute durations and auto-delete timers have been released as well
Telegram users can now record audio files to use as sound alerts when they receive notifications. There seems to be no limit to the type of sound alert that they can use, and they can also select clips from their favorite songs, a voice message, and even meme videos.
People can send their preferred sound alert in individual chats and set it as the custom notification tone directly from the conversation. “Telegram tones are cross-platform and completely free – as they should be,” Telegram said in the official patch notes. But the company reminded users that they can only select audio files that run for less than 5 seconds and up to 300KB in file size only.
In the latest update, Telegram has also expanded the options to mute chats and other app notifications by allowing users to set a specific mute duration. The sample video in the blog post shows preset options ranging from a few hours to up to three months. Alternatively, users can also use the Disable Sound option so they will not be notified for certain chats.
Telegram also introduced “flexible timer settings” to improve the app’s auto-delete feature. Users can set an auto-delete timer directly from the chat and select durations for up to a year.
There are also improvements introduced in Telegram’s in-app translation feature on iOS. With version 8.7.0, the company says iOS users should start seeing better translation results and more supported languages.
Meanwhile, an Android-specific update improves Telegram’s picture-in-picture mode for playing videos sent and viewed directly from the app. “This update adds improvements to the player window on Android – pinch to change its size, tap X to quickly close it, and enjoy the new rounded design,” Telegram said.
The latest update also delivers food-themed animated emojis to the app. Telegram users using the app’s version 8.7.0 should find moving images of popular food items, such as fries, a slice of pizza, a cheeseburger, a taco, a cookie, and pancakes.
