TALLINN, Estonia, Feb. 10, 2016 -- ADVA Optical Networking announced today that Telia Eesti has deployed the ADVA FSP 3000 with 100Gbit/s core technology in its national backbone network. One of the largest telecommunication providers in the Baltic states, Telia Eesti is using the ADVA FSP 3000 solution, complete with multi-degree ROADMs, to link every major Estonian city in an ultra-high bandwidth long-haul network. The major upgrade is Telia Eesti's response to exploding bandwidth demand from mobile, residential and business customers. ADVA Optical Networking was selected for its advanced technology that provides low-maintenance requirements, future-proof scalability and plug-and-play simplicity.
"Recently the message from our customers has been clear. We've seen explosive growth in residential, enterprise and mobile backhaul traffic. With demand this fierce we knew that the only way forward was to harness 100G capabilities," said Tarko Tikan, chief network and infrastructure architect, Telia Eesti. "When we began the process of selecting the ideal 100G core technology it quickly became clear that the ADVA FSP 3000 was the perfect fit. Operational simplicity was a crucial differentiator and ADVA Optical Networking's turn-key system proved to be brilliantly simple to install, maintain and manage. Having direct access to their very responsive technical team at every stage has also helped to make the whole experience a smooth and happy one."
Telia Eesti's meshed 19-node infrastructure features 100Gbit/s coherent capabilities for improved operations and increased service agility. For enhanced performance, the ADVA FSP 3000 network utilizes coherent detection technology, which is optimized for long-haul backbone networks where reach, fiber-impairment tolerance and flexibility are key. The solution features four multi-degree ROADM nodes that are being used to create remote cross-connections on the optical layer, improving service availability and simplifying operations. With the modular architecture of the ADVA FSP 3000, Telia Eesti's new 100Gbit/s network is fully scalable so that further growth can be easily accommodated, and it's also ready for future deployment of optical layer encryption.
"Helping such an exciting company progress to the next stage in their journey is what motivates our team," commented Peter Atterlöf, sales director, Nordics and Baltics, ADVA Optical Networking. "Telia Eesti is experiencing an incredible growth in bandwidth demand from mobile, home and enterprise customers. Being able to transmit 100Gbit/s on a flexible and agile optical core will give them the opportunity to capitalize on this boom. The people of Estonia are extremely tech-savvy and they demand access to digital applications in all areas of life. In terms of business, Estonia is the country that launched Skype and it creates more start-ups per head than any other European nation. With our core solution, Telia Eesti is ensuring that Estonia will continue to advance and lead the digital revolution."
