Tesla has introduced mobile Megapack chargers at major U.S. travel hotspots to support increased holiday traffic. Travelers can find these high-speed chargers in locations like Bakersfield, Primm, El Centro, and Cambridge, offering up to 150kW charging.
Tesla Expands Charging Network for Holiday Travel Demand
In response to the surge in travel demand, Tesla has installed four Megapack Chargers in high-traffic regions of the United States. These stations provide both mobile Megapack units and pre-fabricated Supercharger units.
The locations of these mobile chargers—which can now be viewed on Tesla's Supercharger map—are Bakersfield, California; Primm, Nevada; El Centro, California; and Cambridge, Ohio.
According to Tesla's website, the three mobile charger locations—Bakersfield, Primm, El Centro, and Cambridge—appear to have been attached to preexisting Superchargers. The Cambridge site has ten stalls, while the El Centro site has eight. As noted in the listings for the last two chargers, the mobile units also appear to offer charging speeds of up to 150kW.
Tesla's Mobile Superchargers Serve High-Demand Locations
In the past, Tesla has used mobile Superchargers like this; in October, they were sent to areas of Florida affected by Hurricane Milton. There have been other mobile chargers discovered as early as 2019, but the most recent ones seem to have benefited from Tesla's growing use of pre-fabricated Supercharger units that are manufactured at the Gigafactory in Buffalo, New York.
Below is a graphic of the pre-fab Superchargers that Max de Zegher, Tesla's director of charging for North America, shared a few weeks ago.
Simplifying Installation with Tesla's Pre-Fabricated Units
All the necessary components for constructing a conventional four-stall Supercharging station, including the stalls, charging cabinet, and structural elements, are shown on the left.
A pre-fabricated unit from Tesla, with its own built-in cabinet, stalls, and framework (as explained by Teslarati), is seen on the right. These units simplify the installation process.
