Fans of NBC’s crime thriller series will finally get to binge watch “The Blacklist” season 5 this week, thanks to Netflix. This gives fans ample time to catch up or recall the major cliffhanger before season 6 arrives in 2019.
Along with other blockbuster films and popular TV shows, “The Blacklist” season 5 was scheduled to join Netflix’s library this month. Specifically, all 22 episodes will be streaming on the platform starting on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
Luckily, “The Blacklist” season 5 is also arriving on Netflix a few months earlier than the official release of season 6. With the addition of the latest installment, Netflix now offers all five seasons — all 111 episodes — of NBC’s hit series starring James Spader, Megan Boone, and Diego Klattenhoff.
This is obviously a good chance for new fans to catch up on everything that has happened in the series. But it is safe to say that “The Blacklist” season 5’s major cliffhanger in the finale is the most interesting part of the show yet.
The story of the series greatly revolves around Raymond "Red" Reddington (Spader). He served as a U.S. Naval Intelligence officer and went incognito after joining FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives. This very premise is tightly linked to “The Blacklist” season 5’s finale cliffhanger.
“The Blacklist” season 5 ended with the revelation that Liz formulated an intricate plan along with Sutton Ross (Julian Sands) and her sister Jennifer Reddington (Fiona Dourif), leading to a staged kidnapping of the FBI Agent. They intended to force Reddington to speak about the contents of the mysterious duffel bag.
It was further revealed that Liz and Jennifer had always known that the said duffel bag carries a set of burned human bones that belonged to their father. Yes, “The Blacklist” season 5 finale revealed that sisters knew Reddington is an imposter.
Just like a great finale, the last episode of “The Blacklist” season 5 managed to open an entirely new plot to be explored. Though the sisters know the truth, they still got the imposter to confess how and why the real Reddington died. Fans can only hope to get the answers once season 6 premieres in January 2019.
