“The Blacklist” season 6 will open with an entirely new mystery to unravel. The latest installment concluded by introducing the fake Red (James Spader) arc, which is obviously one of the show’s highlights next year.
For a moment, fans got worried that NBC will no longer order “The Blacklist” season 6. But after that explosive season 5 ending, the fans understandably demanded that the network renew the show. And, fortunately, NBC later gave in.
However, the official synopsis of “The Blacklist” season 6 implies that the fake Red mystery would be resolved within the next 22 episodes arriving in 2019. “All throughout, Liz and Red engage in an uneasy cat-and-mouse game in which lines will be crossed and the truth will be revealed,” part of the official summary reads (via TVLine).
When the synopsis mentions the “cat-and-mouse game” it most likely refers to the fact that Liz (Megan Boone) already knows Red is an impostor. She comes to “The Blacklist” season 6 with the promise of getting to the bottom of things and learn the truth. And if the fake Red mystery will be completely answered in “The Blacklist” season 6, writers of the show will have to top the fake Red plot twist or else the chances for a season 7 renewal could go slim.
There are several indications that the show could still be in the chopping block even though NBC ordered “The Blacklist” season 6. For one, fans are concerned about the show’s new time slot in 2019, which is also popularly known as the “Friday night death slot.”
NBC also made recent changes for the “The Blacklist” season 6 premiere event next year. The season opener is still a two-part episode. However, the first hour will air a day earlier than planned presumably to boost its ratings and gather more viewers.
The first part of the “The Blacklist” season 6 premiere will be released on Thursday, Jan. 3, 10 p.m. ET. There will be a rebroadcast on its original and regular schedule on Friday, Jan. 4, at 9 p.m. ET to be followed with the second segment of the opening event.
