‘The Flash’ season 3’s episode 9, entitled "The Present," will reunite Barry Allen with Jay Garrick in order to defeat the evil Savitar. Meanwhile, Mark Hamill is set to return as the Trickster and will mark the first time in 25 years the character will face off with Shipp’s Jay Garrick.
The synopsis for episode 9 posted on Comicbook.com reads, “With Alchemy and Savitar still looming threats, Barry (Grant Gustin) is unable to focus on the Christmas holiday, and especially his relationship with Iris (Candice Patton).
Determined to stop Savitar, Barry goes to Earth-3 to get advice from Jay Garrick (guest star John Wesley Shipp). Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) wants to help Barry fight Savitar and reveals that he’s been training with H.R. (Tom Cavanagh), which doesn’t go over well with Barry.
As Cisco (Carlos Valdes) faces his first Christmas without his brother Dante (guest star Nicholas Gonzalez), old wounds are reopened.”
The incoming episode will reunite Barry Allen with Jay Garrick as the two speedsters attempt to take down Savitar. Barry realizes that Savitar is too powerful to defeat alone so he travels to Earth-3 to ask for help from his father’s doppelganger and fellow hero Jay Garrick.
Meanwhile, the synopsis held out another big development for the series specifically Mark Hamill’s return as The Trickster. The iconic ‘Star Wars’ actor portrayed the DC supervillain in past seasons of the series but he will be returning in episode 9 as the Trickster of Earth-3, pitting him against Shipp's Jay Garrick a.k.a. The Flash once again.
According to Mic.com, Hamill previously portrayed James Jesse a.k.a. the Trickster in the original The Flash television series from the ‘90s, before reprising his role in The CW series.
‘The Flash’ season 3’s episode 9, entitled "The Present," is scheduled to air on The CW on December 6, 2016. It was directed by Rachel Talalay with a story by Aaron Helbing & Todd Helbing and teleplay by Lauren Certo.
