The fate of “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 remains unknown after months since season 1 aired. The first season’s finale ended on a huge cliffhanger with Natsuo going through a heartbreak, and Rui finally deciding she has to act on her feelings for her step-brother.
The suspense on Natsuo and Rui’s future together is certainly not making the wait for “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 any easier. But fans should note that the manga series, unlike the anime, is very active and is very much far along in terms of the overall plot.
'Domestic Girlfriend' season 2 spoilers: What happens to Natsuo and Hina?
Season 1 ended with Hina deciding she and Natsuo should breakup. The kind of relationship they have is so bizarre that it could ruin Natsuo’s life and future as a writer. Hina has then decided to move away from her family and asked Natsuo that they should both focus on their careers and finding individual happiness. If “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 is ever released, the upcoming episodes will show Hina did the right thing, especially for Natsuo’s sake.
On the other hand, Rui gets to spend more time with Natsuo and the will become much closer in “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2. Depending on the number of episodes in the next season, the story could reach up to the point where Natsuo and Rui are officially dating.
However, it also does not mean that things will become much easier for Natsuo and Rui. The latter will work on honing her passion for the culinary arts, while Natsuo does the same in his writing career. “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 will likely show, however, that Natsuo and Rui will become less compatible as both characters develop. In fact, in a manga chapter released earlier this year, Rui ended up deciding they should also break up.
'Domestic Girlfriend' season 2 release date, production updates: Will there be new episodes?
Fans must remember, though, that there is no indication yet that “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 will be released. The companies and studios attached to the anime adaptation have been extremely quiet about their plans for their series. Additionally, some fans believe that the anime series was never meant to have a second season and was only released to promote the manga.
