Naughty Dog still hasn’t announced the release date of “The Last of Us Part 2” despite fans adamantly asking the studio for official confirmation. So far, most of the news surrounding this front is coming from rumors, Technobezz reported.
It also doesn’t help that Sony has opted to pull out of E3 2019 this year, which means that information drought will persist in the coming months. What the community knows so far is that the studio has significantly progressed in its development of “The Last of Us Part 2.”
Back in 2017, game director Neil Druckmann said that they’re already at 50-60 percent completion of the second installment. And since no news about internal complications within the studio has been reported since then, it’s safe to assume that work on “The Last of Us Part 2” has progressed swimmingly.
Regarding its plotline, little is known about it either. Vengeance appears to be the main theme of “The Last of Us Part 2” as has been hinted in the trailers that were released. In it, Ellie appears to be consumed by hate and vows to take revenge, presumably towards the Seraphites – the main antagonist of the story.
It’s still unclear what the Seraphites did to earn the young teen’s ire but it’s speculated that Dina’s death may have something to do with it. As for its timeline, “The Last of Us Part 2” will apparently take place five years after the conclusion of the first game. Players will now be playing as Ellie exclusively even though Joel will be in the plot as well.
The gameplay trailer that’s been released by PlayStation showed that battle mechanics have been completely revamped. Engaging and multi-faceted, players will be given several options on how to dispose of enemies. And speaking of which, “The Last of Us Part 2” will apparently give gamers plenty of challenges as the foes have been outfitted with AI that makes them communicate effectively with each other. This, too, has been highlighted in the gameplay trailer where several bad guys were continuously talking to each other as they search Ellie around an abandoned area.
Hopefully, Naughty Dog will decide to release the game this year as the community is dying to get their hands on the title. And while it’s likely that “The Last of Us Part 2” will see a 2020 release date, there are rumors out there supporting that it may come out in the last quarter of 2019.
