‘The Mindy Project’ season 5’s episode 5, entitled "Leland Breakfast Is the Miracle Worker", is set to follow Mindy as she goes on a date with a theater actor. Meanwhile, Ike Barinholtz admitted that he wants Judge Judy to appear on the show.
The synopsis posted on TV Guide stated, “Mindy decides to go on a date with a dashing theater actor from London when she finds out that she and Ben aren't dating exclusively. Meanwhile, the nurses try to boost a dejected Jody's spirits when he's still reeling from Mindy's rejection.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, the preceding episode entitled “Mindy Lahiri is a Mysogynist” saw Jody (Garrett Dillahunt) and Jeremy (Ed Weeks) putting together candidates to join the staff of Schulman & Associates, all of whom were women. This forced Mindy (Mindy Kaling) to bring in her own interview candidate, who was a male, to throw into the mix.
Mindy’s bet, Dr. Robert (Charlie Sanders), was a former zip-line operator and cruise ship doctor with a M.D. from the Universidad De Juarez’s El Chapo campus. However, Robert was a disappointment.
Mindy was prompted to introduce Jody and Jeremy to Dr. Anna Ziev (Rebecca Rittenhouse), who was fired from her last practice for assault, so she would not be called out as a “misogynist.” Mindy thought that Anna’s record would break her chances of getting hired as the new OB/GYN for Schulman. However, Anna gets hired on the spot and the entire office immediately loves her, getting Mindy jealous.
She is forced to face her issues with working with women during the entire episode and this leads to straining her relationship with Ben (Bryan Greenberg). Meanwhile, the two continue to argue about her refusal to stay at his place in New Jersey. It seems that trouble between Mindy and Ben would lead to her dating someone else in the incoming episode.
Meanwhile, Ike Barinholtz revealed that he wished for Judge Judy to guest star in the series during a recent interview. Barinholtz plays nurse Morgan Fairchild Ransom Tookers and also serves as one of the series’ producers.
He said, “I’m kind of hackey, and I was very adamant that we do an episode where Morgan gets into a big fight with his grandmother played by Judge Judy [Sheindlin]. She kicks him out and he has nowhere to go so he has to stay at Mindy’s for a while.”
Barinholtz continued, “And we kind of broke it, we talked about it. We never got Judge Judy because she makes $47 million a year and the thought of flying to California to act with me is [probably] disgusting to her.”
He added, “As more important stuff developed, as stuff was developing with Danny and Mindy, you do have to make room for it. So it’s always those things that are super fun and really stupid that make it to the cutting room floor. But we try to keep a balance of keeping a lot of the really stupid stuff in the show too.”
‘The Mindy Project’ season 5’s episode 5, entitled "Leland Breakfast Is the Miracle Worker", is scheduled to premiere on Hulu on November 1, 2016.
