Last month marked the two year anniversary of the Brit Marling-led Netflix original series. And, unfortunately, it is still unknown whether “The OA” season 2 will have a 2019 premiere date.
In late 2017, Marling confirmed on Twitter that they were going to start filming for “The OA” season 2 in January 2018. It sparked hope among fans that the show would return later that year.
Excited and terrified by the road map of these 8 scripts, which took us all summer and fall to write. Shooting Part II of @The_OA starts Jan 2018. Here goes something... @z_al @BARFH pic.twitter.com/1xWKdrtXjQ

However, not even a premiere date was announced the entire 2018. All fans have gotten from Netflix was a very short teaser for “The OA” season 2 that only says “Part II” for 15 seconds.
“The OA” season 2 will reportedly have eight episodes as well. And since small screen projects often follow a consistent annual schedule, fans have been quite disappointed that the show missed on a 2017 or a 2018 premiere date.
To address the viewers’ concern about the dragging delay of “The OA” season 2’s release, Marling shared a lengthy explanation on Instagram last November. She recognized that expecting a regular schedule from the show is understandable since it is “categorized as a TV show.”
Marling explained that moving on to the making of “The OA” season 2, they do not have a “previously written material” like books or novels to work with as other TV shows do. In a more technical aspect, the actress and series co-creator also said they do not “leap-frog their production cycle.”
While Marling did not give away a definitive schedule for the premiere of “The OA” season 2, she promised they are moving along well with post-production. She also told fans to expect more details “in the coming weeks.”
Marling will reprise her role as Prairie Johnson in “The OA” season 2 who later claimed the name OA. he titular protagonist who used to be blind and disappeared for seven years. Once she returned, she mysteriously regained the ability to see. She then created a group to whom she vowed to tell the real story of his life as well as her dreams and premonitions.
The validity of OA’s tales later became questionable to the group until the finale where it was implied that the Five Movements helped them stop a mass shooter at their school. There are even bigger mysteries to be answered in “The OA” season 2 including the identity of the shooter that attacked OA and the possibility of Homer (Emory Cohen) having a more significant role to fill.
