‘The OA’ season 2 will feature more of the “movements” as these are integral to the show’s storyline, as revealed by lead actress and creator Brit Marling. Homer’s near-death experience will also be addressed.
According to Variety, the mystery-drama web television series created and executive produced by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij has been renewed for a second season on Netflix. The series debuted on the streaming service on December 2016 and consisted of eight episodes, which were all directed by Batmanglij. It starred Marling in the lead role as Prairie Johnson, a young adopted woman who disappears for seven years only to return with her sight restored.
The series received generally favorable reviews and was acknowledged for its direction and concept. However, it was also compared to the Duffer Brothers’ highly popular Netflix series ‘Stranger Things.’
According to Just Jared, Marling talked about to handle criticism during an interview with Interview Magazine. She explained, “I think I do definitely have a toughness. And who knows where this sh*t comes from? I mean, look, somebody you admire saying something harsh about your work hurts me the way it hurts everybody else. But, for me, it just never goes very deep.”
She continued, “It’s like someone taking a little pin and like pricking you. For better or worse, I have pretty sophisticated armor that makes me feel like the thing I’m most interested in is trying the bold thing I believe in and that that in and of itself is worth something, even if nobody gets it in the moment.”
The 34-year old actress, screenwriter, and producer also admitted that “movements” were an important aspect of the show. She admitted, “The OA is our attempt at writing and making a new human language through movement, this mythology we’re inventing.”
Movements are portrayed as interpretative dance moves that allow one to experience inter-dimensional travel. These were used by the boys and their teacher to stop a shooter from wreaking havoc in school. It was revealed that movements were key components in the show’s storyline.
Meanwhile, Homer’s (Emory Cohen) near-death experience will also be addressed in season 2. According to Inverse, season 1’s episode 4 featured Homer running through a hospital as he was chased down by unknown forces. He is then lead to a room with a fish tank.
‘The OA’ season 2 is officially returning to Netflix following its renewal on February 8, 2017.
