“The Originals” season 6 is one of the highly anticipated shows today; however, there is still no clear answer if it will be renewed or axed. Actually, show creator Julie Plec already released a statement last year but fans are still waiting for an update that will give them some good news.
The wish for good news came about after Plec announced that The CW already canceled “The Originals” season 6. In her official announcement that was posted in July 2017 via Twitter, the show creator said, “Ending a show is always bittersweet, but for me, it’s a true blessing to be a part of making that choice.”
Although it is definitely a sad announcement, Julie Plec gave some hope when she said that there is a chance that they will be seen on TV again because some spin-offs are possible in the future. This means that they could somehow continue the story of the Mikaelson family, but they cannot say when this will happen yet.
“I think there are future shows down the line that can be spawned out of this world and could tell good stories. It’s a hope for the future if nothing else,” she said.
Moreover, while “The Originals” season 6 is not happening anymore, fans can still watch the fifth season that ended with 13 episodes. It aired the finale on Aug. 1 and, as noted by Otakukart, the ending broke the heart of its viewers.
This was because two important characters, Niklaus "Klaus" Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies) unexpectedly died. What’s more, another remarkable character, Hayley Marshall (Phoebe Tonkin), also died while protecting her daughter.
These deaths actually put the show at risk and fans should have already known by then that “The Originals” season 6 is not happening anymore. If there is a good thing about the finale, it is that it tied the loose ends in the story, thus fans were not left with cliffhangers or unanswered questions regarding its plotlines.
“The Originals” first aired on Oct. 3, 2013, and it was a spin-off of the successful vampire series “The Vampire Diaries.” It follows the life of vampire-werewolf hybrid Klaus Mikaelson and his family after they became entangled in the chaotic supernatural affairs of New Orleans.
