Shortly after John Legend joined the EGOT winners list, NBC announced that he will be taking Jennifer Hudson’s spot to coach for “The Voice” season 16. Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, poked fun at the announcement and asked if she can mentor as well.
Even before season 15 premieres, NBC confirmed that Hudson will not be joining “The Voice” season 16. But fans must not worry because taking her place is another music industry powerhouse. Legend is joining the panel of coaches along with Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Kelly Clarkson.
While this is Legend’s first time to sit in the spinning chair, the 39-year-old singer-songwriter had been in the “The Voice” set as a guest performer and a guest advisor. Levine brought in Legend in season 12 to help his team prepare for the Battle Rounds. Soon, Levine and Legend will now be competing for their own teams in “The Voice” season 16.
“I'm thrilled to join the coaches of The Voice. I've been a guest and mentor on the show multiple times, and I'm so excited to discover talented singers and help them make the most of their gift,” Legend said. “I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL.”
Meanwhile, Teigen was unsurprisingly one of the social media users who reacted to NBC’s announcement about the newest coach in “The Voice” season 16. The model and cookbook author posed as an internet troll and commented, “Liberal snowflake! Bad choice [definitely] not watching!”
She then changed her tone for another funny comment on Legend’s photo for the “The Voice” season 16 announcement. The “Cravings” author asked, “Can I be a mentor?”
Legend and Teigen are one of the Hollywood couples known for exchanging banters on social media. As they celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary a day after NBC announced Legend is joining “The Voice” season 16, Teigen made sure to call out Legend for announcing his upcoming TV gig on the same day her cookware collection with Target was launched.
The 15th season of NBC's hit talent show is set to premiere on Sept. 24. Meanwhile, “The Voice” season 16 is slated to air in spring 2019.
