Danai Gurira has been confirmed to leave “The Walking Dead” but she will still be appearing in the tenth installment from time to time. She will not be a series regular and to prepare for her exit, she will still be Michonne whose fate is uncertain. Most likely, she will either be killed by the zombies or travel far for a smooth departure.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Walking Dead” season 10 would be Danai Gurira’s final season. She will be part of few episodes throughout the season so fans can expect less air time for Michonne.
The actress’ exit is no doubt would be a blow to “The Walking Dead” season 10 since she is an important character just like Rick Grimes who also left in season 9. However, the producers had to let her go so she can explore other opportunities ahead of her.
"She has been very vocal about saying that she loves the show. We love Danai; we love that character, David Madden, AMC programming president told THR. “Right now, she's got a lot of opportunities and she needs to weigh what she feels is best for her. But we certainly would want her on the show as long as she wants to be on it."
Madden added that the really want her to continue in “The Walking Dead” season 10 but they respect her decision. "We really want her to stay. She is an incredibly valuable character and I'm really hoping she stays,” he said.
Meanwhile, Express reported that there is a chance that Negan will turn from a villain to a good person in “The Walking Dead” season 10. This assumption comes after the season 9 finale showed Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) saving Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming) from a snowstorm. The publication remarked that with his act of kindness, he could be redeemed in the tenth season of “TWD.”
“The Walking Dead” season 10 is set to premiere in October via AMC.
