‘The Walking Dead’ season 8 star Andrew Lincoln teased the “most exciting” new installment during a recent interview. Meanwhile, co-star Norman Reedus shared one of the first behind-the-scenes photographs of himself and Lincoln from season 8’s filming set.
According to Express, Lincoln dropped hints for the upcoming season of AMC’s horror-drama television series during a recent interview. He teased that season 8 will be the “most exciting” yet.
Lincoln revealed, “I can’t wait… This is not hyperbole. This is not a cynical act to try and amp up enthusiasm for the hundredth episode in season 8, but I am genuinely more excited about this next episode and the following 15 than I’ve ever been in my life.”
Showrunner Scott Gimple also confirmed that the series will go on a time jump from the original comic books by Robert Kirkman. He told The Hollywood Reporter, "We're doing the book, we do all sorts of variations on it, and then we do things that are inspired by it and then we change things up with a remix.”
Gimple continued, “But I will say there are things that happen in that time jump that are referred to that are super interesting. And thus we might see some of that stuff; it might not be the same sort of jump, or we'll do that two to five years in real time."
Season 7’s finale hinted at the upcoming war between Rick’s camp and Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) notorious Saviors. In the cliffhanger finale, Rick finally declared war against Negan and the Saviors as he prepared to attack with his newly-formed alliance with the communities of Hilltop, The Kingdom and his very own Alexandrians. Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) also ended up taking her own life to avoid becoming one of Negan’s lackies.
Lincoln’s co-star Norman Reedus, who plays the fan-favorite Daryl on the series, already began teasing filming for season 8 in his social media posts. According to Digital Spy, Reedus posted a behind-the-scenes photograph of himself with Lincoln captioned, “Ready to get back at it!”
Meanwhile, it was speculated that Glenn (Steven Yeun) may be returning on the series in a series of flashbacks as his widow, Maggie (Lauren Cohan), moves on with her life and her mission. When asked about the odds of seeing Glenn again on the show, Gimple teased that it would “certainly be possible.” Glenn was killed off by Negan in season 7’s controversial premiere episode aired last October 23, 2016.
‘The Walking Dead’ season 8 is expected to return on AMC on October 2017. The season’s first trailer is slated to premiere at the San Diego Comic Con in July.
