With Jon Bernthal set to reprise his role as Shane Walsh for one episode in “The Walking Dead” Season 9, many have wondered if Steven Yeun would return as well to play Glenn Rhee in a flashback scene. The possibility of a reunion between some of the original series regulars seemed like a good idea, and with Andrew Lincoln leaving the show after the season, it couldn't have come at a better time. Unfortunately, Yeun doesn’t seem to be interested in returning as Glenn at the moment.
While talking about Lincoln exit in “The Walking Dead” Season 9, Yeun told Larry King that it wouldn’t make sense for Glenn to return to the show since his character arc has already ended. "Personally, for me, I just saw no other way to do it but true to the comic. They hit my face with a baseball bat repeatedly 'til it was mush," Yeun said, via ComicBook.com
But at the same time, Yeun also kept the door open for a return of sorts in the future as he clarified the statements he made in an interview with IndieWire earlier this month. IndieWire had written that Yeun had no interest in returning, but the Korean-American actor said he’s just not interested in playing a young Glenn in a spinoff series.
“I think I was just saying I don't wanna go back to young Glenn," Yeun said in the interview with Larry King, via the Daily Express. "Not only could I not do that physically, I don't look like the kid that I started as at 25, but also, mentally, that character was just such in a different place that, for me to go back there, I think it would be not good for anyone."
Well, the good news is Yeun may still reprise his role as Glenn in the future. However, fans are unlikely to see him in “The Walking Dead” Season 9.
