CLEARWATER, Fla., March 31, 2016 -- On Saturday, 26 March, The Way to Happiness Association Tampa Bay partnered with basketball coaching group Hard2Guard Rising Stars and basketball coach, Dyimond Johnson, on a free basketball camp for over 150 youth and parents at the Long Center. The camp was open for kids and teens aged 7 – 17 years old.
Five coaches from the Hard2Gaurd group trained two separate age groups, 7 – 12 years and 13 – 17 years old, on basketball techniques and drills in the Long Center’s gymnasium. Attending parents were able to watch from the second floor. Drills began at 9:30am with the younger group and was followed by certificates, an Easter egg hunt and refreshments in the courtyard of the Long Center’s main entrance.
Schenique Harris from Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and mother of Dyimond Johnson, organized the event. The Way to Happiness also donated over 150 candy-stuffed Easter eggs for the egg hunt. Special prizes were given out to two lucky kids who found a golden and a silver egg.
Founded in 2004, Hard2Guard is a premier basketball organization focusing on training and coaching. Its founder, Coach Chris, has over 25 years of experience in coaching and playing basketball. Hard2Guard’s mission is to help young players achieve their goals in basketball through better coaching, training and regular events and tournaments.
“These types of camps help kids to be more competent, so they can achieve their dreams,” said Tanja Cranton, the Executive Director of The Way to Happiness Foundation Tampa Bay. “One of our missions is to help families become more competent as based on a Precept in The Way to Happiness book. That is our motivation for helping organizations like Hard2Guard.”
