George R.R. Martin fans will be delighted to know that the author has a new book which he recently discussed in an interview. But some might end up being disappointed with the fact that it’s not “The Winds of Winter.”
It has been revealed for months now that Martin was working on a new book focused on the history of the House of Targaryen. As if it was not made obvious before, Martin’s interview with Publishers Weekly this week will reiterate that it is not “The Winds of Winter.”
Moreover, Martin does not prefer to call “Fire and Blood” a novel as well. “The important thing, as I keep stressing, is that it’s not a novel,” Martin told the Publishers Weekly. “I think it’s very entertaining — a lot of people will like it, I hope — but I don’t want them to buy it thinking that they’re getting the latest 'Ice and Fire' novel, which is an entirely different literary form than what’s essentially a popular history.”
Unlike “The Winds of Winter,” George R.R. Martin’s newest book now has its release date. The Targaryen-focused book is slated to hit the shelves on Nov. 20.
As it stands, Martin is still not ready to give “The Winds of Winter” a specific release date. This obviously means that the author has not yet finished the book. This month, the “A Song of Ice and Fire” officially hit the seven-year mark since the predecessor “A Dance With Dragons” was released.
Meanwhile, now that Martin’s work for “Fire and Blood” is likely done, it means he has more time now to get back to finishing “The Winds of Winter.” The critically acclaimed author did confirm this in a blog post last April. “Archmaester Gyldayn is hanging up his quill for a while. As for me, I’m returning once again to ‘THE WINDS OF WINTER,’” Martin wrote.
The “Game of Thrones” HBO series has also surpassed its source novel. The events in “The Winds of Winter” is expected to be reflected in season 7, which concluded last year. However, there were significant plot changes between the book and the series that would still make “The Winds of Winter” worth reading.
